Travel Poster Ripon LNER Railway Spradbery. Original antique travel poster for Ripon issued by the London North Eastern Railway LNER featuring colourful artwork by Walter E. Spradbery (1889-1969) depicting a tree lined river flowing over rocks with Ripon Cathedral visible in the background, the bold title text and information in French on the margin - LNER Ripon via Chemins de Fer de Londres et de Nord-Est de la Grande Bretagne. The historic city of Ripon is located in the Borough of Harrogate in north Yorkshire on the tributaries of the River Ure and the Laver and Skell rivers; founded originally as a monastery in the 660s, the early English gothic style Cathedral Church of St Peter and St Wilfrid was built in 1160-1547 and became a cathedral in 1836. Printed by John Waddington Ltd. Good condition, restored folds, restored tears, restored tear through text, browning, minor staining, backed on linen. Country of issue: UK, designer: Walter E.
